He was born in Springfield, September 25, 1926 the son of Arthur LeRoy and May Anna (Livermore) Brown. Glen joined the U.S. Marine Corp., October 13, 1945 achieving the rank of Corporal, November 16, 1946. Glen served at Iwo Jima which earned him the Purple Heart. He also earned the Good Conduct Medal and the Good Conduct Bar.
Glen married Wilma Emerson in Springfield, October 18, 1947 and she preceded him in death January 25, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his daughter and son in law, Glenda and Bill Klint, his brother and sister in law, Clinton and Betty Brown, and a sister and brother in law, Nelda and Joe Tole, and a son in law, Jerry Marsik.
Glen retired from Sangamo Electric in Springfield where he served as a tool & die maker. He served on the Grandview Police Department and as their chief for a time. Glen and Wilma loved to travel and especially in their RV. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and bowler. He was a member of various leagues with his nephews. He enjoyed woodworking and was well known for his craftsmanship and detail. He was most noted for the rocking chairs he built and shared with family and friends.
Surviving are his three daughters: Terri Marsik of Pleasant Plains, IL, Gail (Tim) Runyon of Tallula, IL and Debra (Robert) Sokolis of Springfield. There are nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Arrangements are in the care of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL where the family will greet family and friends Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 9:30 am until the time of a funeral service at 11:00 am there at the funeral home. His grandson, Pastor Doug Cormeny will officiate. Burial will follow in McKinney Cemetery, Springfield where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Marine Corp and the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, requiring that those attending wear mask and limited to 50 guest at one time in the building.
