He was born on April 19, 1931 in Pleasant Plains, IL, the son of the late William Ernest and Dorothy Elizabeth (Gray) Pickett. He married Alice Lynn on January 2, 1952 in Springfield and she survives.
In addition to his wife, Alice, he is survived by a son, William Michael (wife Rene) Pickett of Springfield; his daughter Patricia Louise Kuhn of Springfield; 3 grandchildren, Andrea Kuhn, Alison Kuhn, and Joseph Kuhn, all of Springfield; his brother Ernest Lee (wife Jean) Pickett of New Berlin, IL; his sister Marilyn Pickett of Springfield; his nephews William Pickett and Ernest Lee (wife Sara) Pickett, Jr; his niece Jody (husband Geoff) Sarginson; and several great nephews and nieces.
Frank farmed on Koke Mill Road with his father for the first 30 years of his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as an aircraft and engine mechanic and instructor. Following his military service, he joined the Sangamon County Sheriff’s office and achieved the post of Deputy Sheriff. For 34 years, he worked as Sangamon County Zoning Administrator, retiring from that position in 1992.
He was active in many Masonic organizations throughout his life, including Tyrian Masonic Lodge 333 AF & AM. He was a life member in both Ansar Shrine, serving as Potentate in 1986, and the Legion of Honor, serving as Adjutant for many years and participating in the LoH Championship Close Order Drill Team. He was a member of VFW Post 755 and American Legion Post 32.
Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home in Springfield.
Frank’s family welcomes friends and family to attend a celebration of life ceremony on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 5 to 7pm at Athens Christian Church, 1441 IL Rt. 29, Athens, IL, where he was a member. Masonic services will be held briefly at 6pm. A Memorial service, also at the church, will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017 with visitation at 10am, followed by services officiated by Rev. Ken Gennicks at 11a.
