Ferdinand “Ferd” J. Gramlich, 78, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died at 2:01 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2007 at St. John’s Hospital. Ferd was born on March 16, 1929 in Springfield, the son of Art and Helen Ushman Gramlich. He married Janice J. Hay on February 3, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church; she preceded him in death on May 20, 2002. He was employed as a Laborer for Union Local 477 for sixty years retiring with a gold card. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, working on mowers and small engines and spending time outdoors and with his family. Ferd was also preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Florence Baldoni and one brother, Art Gramlich, Jr. Surviving is one son, John Arthur Gramlich of Springfield; three daughters: Debbie Knox, Karen (husband, Stephen) Nunn and Vonda (husband, Corey) Wiegand all of Springfield; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters: Irene Mataya and Edna (husband, Joe) Dunbar both of Springfield; one aunt, Florence Stone of Loami and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. No public ceremonies are planned. The family of Ferdinand “Ferd” Gramlich is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
