Janet was born on December 4, 1932, in Patterson, Greene County, IL, the daughter of Buford and Evelyn (Irlam) Dawdy.
She graduated from Roodhouse High School and moved to Jacksonville in 1950. She worked as a secretary at Illinois Steel Bridge Company and after the birth of her first child she became a stay-at-home mom. She moved to Springfield in 1963 and then worked for Lindley’s Florist. Janet left there to work for the State of Illinois Comptroller for many years before transferring to the Department of Children and Family Services, retiring in 2004. She enjoyed taking photographs of her family at family events, gardening, baking and cooking, especially during the holidays, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Rollin Dawdy.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Susan) Sims of Frisco, TX, and Stanley Sims of Springfield; brother, Robert Dawdy of Jacksonville; sister, Janis (Harley Dean) Wyatt of Roodhouse; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, with Rev. Brian Schwarberg officiating.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
