Eugene M. "Gene" Bailey, 78, died at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Gene was born on June 19, 1935 in Springfield to Thomas and Elizabeth (Devocelle) Bailey, both of whom preceded him in death, along with three brothers, one sister, and a son-in-law, Dr. Edgar Salazar. He married Monica Yakle on June 7, 1958. She survives. Also surviving are four children: Michael (Joann) Bailey of Washington, Kathleen Bailey Salazar of LaGrange, Angela (Victor) Canseco of Hawthorn Woods, and Patrick (Dana) Bailey of Springfield. He was a grandfather to ten, Erica (husband, Scott) Shoff, Nicole (husband, Ed) Black, Jack, William, Joshua and David (wife, Rachel)Salazar, Harrison and Sophia Canseco, Ashley and Allison Bailey; four great-grandchildren, Mason and Carter Shoff, Amelia and Elizabeth Salazar. Gene was a 1953 graduate of Lanphier High School in Springfield and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a meat cutter, retiring after 41 years of service at Eisner and Jewel food stores. Visitation: A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. An additional visitation will be held from 11:30a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014. Funeral Ceremony: 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home.
