Elmer J. "Elm" Buckley, 85, died April 10, 2008 at St. John's Hospital. Elm was born August 25, 1922 in Springfield, the son of Harry M. and Mary Schlosser Buckley. He married Elda Jombock on February 8, 1944 at Blessed Sacrament. Elm graduated from Cathedral Boys School and went on to dedicate 18 years with the U.S. Postal Service. When he wasn't rooting on Notre Dame, the Chicago Bears, or Cubs, Elm enjoyed watching old western films and playing cards. Elm was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Marie Buckley; his brother, Harry Buckley, Jr.; his sister, Ella Picco; and his son-in-law, Morris Moore. He is survived by his wife, Elda Buckley of Springfield; and his daughter, Christine Moore of Springfield, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield, IL with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, celebrant. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
