

Edward J. Curtin, 85, of Pleasant Plains, died at 10:01 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Ed was born July 14, 1928 in Springfield, the son of George W. and Caroline G. Longworth Curtin. Ed was a graduate of Pleasant Plains High School and worked as a farmer and mechanic on his own farm. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, past member of the Knights of Columbus, and belonged to the Holy Name Society. Ed was an inventor who applied for patents from the U.S. patent office. He enjoyed tractor pulls, antique tractors and small engines. He was a John Deere fanatic. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rita Hanudel. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Edward A Hanudel of Houston, TX; one niece, Maria Pronske (husband, Erik) of Austin TX; and two nephews, Steve Hanudel and Mark A (wife, Kathy) Hanudel from Lake Charles, LA. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 3:00 PM. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos St., Springfield with Rev. Robert J. Jallas, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
