Edward Patrick Canny

Edward Patrick Canny, 66, of Springfield, passed away at 7:16 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at St. Johns Hospital. Ed was born on November 1, 1950 in Blue Island, IL, the son of Edward B. and Anne (Prystalski) Canny. He married Nancy Pohl on May 27, 1972 in Springfield. Ed served as a firefighter for 30 years, and after his retirement he began selling real estate. He was always helping anyone who needed him. He enjoyed running the Springfield Firefighters Credit Union, talking politics, and especially spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Canny. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Springfield; five children, Ed (wife, Gina) Canny of Chatham, Kathy Vizral, Mike (wife, Jodi) Canny, Steve (wife, Jenny) Canny, and Megan (husband, Max) Corlas, all of Springfield; ten grandchildren, Sara and Ryan Canny, Isaac and Tori Vizral, Izzy, Mikey, Justin, Andrew, Abigail, and Caleb Canny; two siblings, Ginny (husband, Tom) Meinen of Kansas and Mary (husband, Chuck) Campbell of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 North Amos Avenue, Springfield with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
