Dorothy Vern South

She was born in Auburn, IL Jan. 18, 1928 the daughter of Verner G. and Lera P. Bryant Williams. She married Robert J. South June 8, 1947 and he preceded her in death June 20, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her son, Chuck in 2008 and her brother, Edward Williams.

Dorothy worked alongside her husband as the co-owner and operator of South’s Greenhouse. She loved working with plants and making Christmas Wreaths with her family.

She was member of the First Church of God. She will be remembered as one who lived a true Christian life, an avid sports fan and a friend to many. But most of all, she will be remembered for how she loved and enjoyed her family and the special love she had for her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children: Gloria (Richard) Snodgrass of Rochester, IL, Bill (Ann) South of Springfield, John (Deanna) South of Normal, IL, Jim (Kelly) South of Ravenna, OH, and Tom (Dana) South of Marion, IN. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Rita South-Linscott of Springfield, 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

Visitation and Funeral Service: The family will received friends at the First Church of God 2800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield, IL from 4-7 pm Tuesday, Feb 17, 2015 and from 10:00 am Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015 until the time of services at 10:30 am at the church. Rev. Jay Kroft will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
