

Donna Jean Matthews Carver, 65, of Pawnee, passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at her home, with her family by her side. She was born April 3, 1952 in Springfield to the late Wesley Donald and Melinda Ann Patton Matthews. Donna retired as the Executive Assistant to the Publisher of the State Journal Register where she worked from 1985 to 2011. As a gifted writer, she also served as editor of The Bulldog, which was a well-loved newsletter for the employees and supporters of the SJ-R. Donna enjoyed travelling with her family, friends, and her pet companion, Cozy. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Jim; nieces and nephews, Grace Matthews of Edwardsville and Daniel (Heather) Matthews of Pensacola, FL; step-children, Greg Carver (Janet Kenny) of Evergreen, CO and their son, Jack, Amy (Tom) Ure of Des Plaines, IL and their sons Sam and Ray; siblings, Richard Matthews (Carrie Smith) of Springfield and Danny Matthews of Mechanicsburg.
