

Donald L. O'Connor, 86, of Sherman, passed away at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 at St. John's Hospital. Donald was born on March 1, 1925 in Chicago, the son of Stephen and Isabella Donnelly O'Connor. He married Rita M Zeller on September 13, 1947 in Chicago. Donald was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School in 1942 and attended Loyola University. He served in WWII with the U.S. Navy and was a volunteer in the Fleet Marines. He worked for 42 years as an electrician for IBEW and was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He volunteered at the St. John's Breadline, delivered Meals on Wheels, taught English as a second language in TX, and dedicated 21 years as a Boy Scout leader. Donald enjoyed camping, computers, HAM radios, country western dancing, and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Stephen O'Connor. He is survived by his wife, Rita of Sherman; five sons, Donald O'Connor of Chattanooga, TN, Leo (wife, Robin) O'Connor of Markham, IL, Stephen (wife, Barbara) O'Connor, Brian (wife, Robyn) O'Connor and Gregory (wife, Sue) O'Connor, all of Chicago; two daughters, Jo-Ann Allsenberrie of Lake Tahoe, CA and Rosemary (husband, Warren) Ellis of Quincy; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. A memorial gathering will be held from 10:30 until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at St. John Vianney, 902 St. John's Dr., Sherman with Rev. Msgr. Carl A.
