He was born on July 28, 1928 in Springfield, the son of the late Brian H. and Betty J. (Goin) Nolting. He married Nadine Adkins in Springfield on January 28, 1960 and she survives.
Mr. Nolting graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield. Don went on to work at Sangamo Electric for 30 years and then retired from Ameren where he worked as a meter reader. He served as a Captain on the Village of Grandview Police Department and also served on the Springfield City Auxiliary Police for many years. He was a member of the Postal Club and bowled with the Sangamo Bowling League. Don had a passion for fishing and looked forward to trips to Canada and Missouri to fish with his nephews and brother-in-law. An avid card player, he especially enjoyed pinochle and played regularly for over 70 years with friends and family.
Besides his wife Nadine, he is survived by 2 daughters, Diana Law of Las Vegas, NV and Stephanie (husband Holmes) Giraldo of New London, CT; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; a sister Gretchen (husband Les) Plotner of Lincoln, IL; and 3 nephews, Greg (wife Laura) Plotner of Tampa, FL, Kent (wife Ellen) Plotner of Swansea, IL, and Eric (wife Shauna) Plotner of Morton, IL.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 10 am until time of the funeral service at 11 am at Elm Street Christian Church 3020 E. Elm St. Springfield IL with Rev. Seth Schnautz officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 pm Thursday at the Mason City Cemetery.
