Donald W. Dippel, Sr., 78, of Springfield, passed away at 6:58 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2010 in Springfield. Donald was born in Old Berlin, IL on September 5, 1931, the son of George and Erma Louise Jones Dippel. He married Alice L. Angeles on September 1, 1951 in Springfield. Donald attended Feitshans High School as well as a bible school in Ava, MO. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he earned three Bronze Stars and a Rifleman's badge. He retired from his position as a route salesman after 30 years of service with the F. W. Means Company; then worked in sales at Office Coffee and later as a janitor for District 186 until his health failed. He had a love for cars and enjoyed just looking at them. He enjoyed shopping with his wife and daughters, watching NASCAR and Cubs games with his son, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and getting together with friends at McDonald's. He was a friendly man who always looked for the good in people, and who enjoyed spending all his time with his family whom he loved dearly. He was a member of South Side Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Kevin E. Dippel; siblings, Helen Gay, Marge Fawns, Dorothy Klauzer Lee, George "Ray" Dippel, Faye Sidner, Betty Meece, Shirley Fawns and Harold "Tex" Dippel. He is survived by his wife, Alice of Springfield; son, Donald W. (Cynthia) Dippel, Jr.; three daughters, Karen (Ernie) Pesicka and Nancy (Bob) Taft all of Springfield and Judy (Roger) Jarrard of New Berlin; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, William Dippel of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held from 5:00 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at South Side Christian Church, 2600 S. MacArthur Blvd., Springfield. Additional visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. before the funeral ceremonies. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, May 28, 2010 at South Side Christian Church with Minister John Wentz officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveteran's Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the U.S. Army.
