Dennis Ray Gilbert

He was born on November 24, 1954, in Springfield, the son of Roy Edward and Eva Irene (Speaks) Gilbert.

Dennis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He went on to work for the Scaife flower shop for 20 years, followed by Springfield Park District, retiring after 17 years. Dennis enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing the harmonica, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a very good singer who was known to be feisty, hardworking, kind, caring, and generous.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Everett “Leroy” Gilbert and Ronald Dean Gilbert.

Dennis is survived by his daughter, Ashley (John) Madden of Farmer City, IL; son, Tyler Gilbert of Springfield; grandchildren, Raeanna and Jacob Miller, Johnna Madden, John Madden, Jr., and Tatem, Kelsie, and Kylie Madden; siblings, Patricia Credi of Kincaid, IL, and Randy (Judy) Gilbert; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation and Funeral Service: Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the Service at 11:00 a.m.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, following services.
