He was born in Murrayville, IL, May 27, 1933 the son of Claude and Lena (Martin) Morris. Dean married Alice Mattingly in Springfield, IL December 27, 1953 and she preceded him in death March 17, 2019. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tiffany, a great grandson, Noah, a brother, Dale Morris and a sister, Pauline Stoddard.
Dean proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957. He achieved the rank of Sargent Airman 1st Class.
Dean devoted 25 years of service to Jewel Tea Company retiring in 1983. Retirement would only last a short time as he and his wife became the owners and operators of the White Hen Pantry at First and North Grand in Springfield.
He was the family “jokester” always having fun and making everyone laugh. He was a good salesman and enjoyed his work. He loved to travel and enjoyed camping. Above all, he especially loved to spend time with his family and was the biggest supporter of his grandchildren and all their endeavors. He was a member of West Side Christian Church.
He is survived by his children: Les (Cindy) Morris of Reed Springs, MO, Barbara (Steve) Byerline of Auburn, IL, Wanda (Jerry) Hilscher of Russell Springs, KY, Frances Morris of Cibolo, TX and Rick (Lori) Morris of Springfield, IL. There are 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements are in the care of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL where the family will greet friends and family Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 9:30 am until the time of a funeral service at 10:30 am. Pastor James McGee will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Williamsville, IL. Covid-19 protocol will be followed requiring face coverings, social distancing and limit of 50 guest in the funeral home at a time.
