He attended Mount Pleasant High School, where he was active in football and track. After completing high school, he attended Penn State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. His interest in sports continued while at Penn State, as exemplified by placing second in his weight class for intramural boxing. He later earned a master’s in Business Administration from the Keller School of Management in Chicago, IL. In 1979, he received his Professional Engineering certification from the state of Texas.
David’s work experience ranged from time study in a manufacturing plant, as an efficiency expert with the consulting department of a big 8 accounting firm, manager of a systems and programming group, and manager of budgets and accounting. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 1998 and continued living in Fort Worth.
In 1960, he married a fellow Penn State alumna, Rebecca Reynolds. During their 37 years of marriage, they raised four children. Rebecca died in 1997 after a multiyear battle with Huntington’s disease.
David had many outside interest and hobbies.
He was an avid photographer, with a special interest in photojournalism. He won many awards for his photos, both at local camera clubs and as chairman of the PJ division of the Photographic Society of America. While in Fort Worth, he was a photographer with three publications in the area.
David’s second outside interest was sports cars. He owned three Porsches, including a 1955 Speedster. While not truly racing, he won numerous awards in rally driving and gymkhanas competitions.
Other activities included President of a Toastmaster Club, Chairman of the Centre County Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy campaign, and Vice President of the local Junior Chamber of Commerce Club and was elected to the City Council of Meadows, Texas.
David met and married Jean Graham Duncan in 2000. Together they became active in the Fort Worth Sister Cities program, Fort Worth Symphony League, and the Children’s Education Program at Bass Performance Hall. He also photographed various events, including Piano Texas at Texas Christian University and the Christian Athlete of the Year banquet of Lay Witnesses for Christ (LWFC).
They both had an interest in travel and had many interesting trips including six cruises, a trip to the 24 hours of racing at La Mons, France, and numerous adventures in Europe.
David was a committed Christian, serving as an Elder at the Presbyterian Church in Hanover Park, Illinois. He was the International Director of communication for LWFC at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. He obtained press credentials and photographed the Paralympics at both the 2000 and 2012 Paralympics.
David maintained an active and healthy lifestyle that included multiple 5k races and placed 1st in the 2019 Cowtown Marathon in his age group.
David was preceded by his wife, Jean Graham Frick, and now rests with her at the University Christian Church columbarium. He is survived by his three children, Emily Thomas, Christopher Frick and wife, Amanda, and Jeffrey Frick and wife, Trish, all living in Springfield, plus 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Parkway Christian Church, 2700 Lindbergh Blvd, Springfield, with Pastor Marsha Funneman officiating.
