“The light has gone from my world when my husband David Alan Ayers, 87, of Springfield, passed away on September 18, 2024 at St. John’s Hospital.” He was born on July 26, 1937 in Lincoln to Elbert Ayers and Margaret Clemens. Dave married Debbie Bourland in Las Vegas on March 12, 2004 and she survives.
David is also survived by one step-son Michael (Melissa) Waitkus of Springfield, one step-granddaughter Faith Waitkus, two step-grandchildren: Gabrielle and Izick Feagans, seven great-grandchildren with one on the way, one sister Donna Froshchauer of Tuscon and his beloved dog Oreo. He was pre ceded in death by his parents and a step-grandson Zane Feagans.
Mr. Ayers was a member of the Air National Guard serving as a firefighter for ten years. He worked at Caterpillar and then owned Dave’s Cycle Sales, Springfield Cycle Sports and currently owned Go Karts Unlimited. Dave raced motorcycles professionally for ten years at various places including Daytona and the Astrodome to mention a few. He had a lifelong love of motorcycles and enjoyed attending motorcycle races. Dave was an avid Cubs fan with Ernie Banks being his favorite player. He was of the Christian faith and a member of the American Legion Post #32 and the Vintage Ironriders.
Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday October 19, 2024 from 12:00pm until 4:00pm at the American Legion Post 32, 1120 East Sangamon Avenue.
