Daniel Denton McCain died Friday, July 1, 2011 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln, Illinois after a brief illness. He was born in Windfall, Tipton County, Indiana on Nov. 13, 1926, the son of Edwin Dill McCain and Blanche Mitchell McCain.
Daniel graduated from Michigantown High School (IN) in 1944 and attended Purdue University after graduation. He received a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana after serving as a sergeant in the US Army in 1945.
Mr. McCain was an educator his entire professional career. He served as both a teacher and a principal at Kyger Elementary School in Frankfort, Indiana, then later retired in 1992 from Ready Elementary School in Griffith, Indiana where he was the principal for nearly 30 years.
Mr. McCain married Wilma Parker on August 1, 1952 in Burlington, Indiana. She died on April 28, 2004 in Springfield, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wilma, sister Mary Ellen Johnson who died in 2008, brother Mark who died in 1972, and brother Dale who died in 2007. He is survived by a son David Lee (Susan) of Greensboro, North Carolina, a grandson Daniel David McCain of Virginia Beach, Virginia and a granddaughter Kelly Monaghan McCain Parker (Michael) also of Greensboro, North Carolina.
While living in Northwest Indiana, Daniel served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Munster, Indiana. He was also very active in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield upon his death. Viewing will be Tuesday, July 5th 11:00am until 12:30pm, funeral services will follow at 12:30 pm followed by burial in Camp Butler National Military Cemetery. Bisch West Funeral Home 2931 S.
