Dana B. Young, 55, of Springfield, passed away at 6:36 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. Dana was born January 29, 1963 in Chicago, the son of Russell and Jane Bushong Young. He married Patricia Perschke on October 14, 1989 in Winnetka. Dana graduated from New Trier West High School in Northfield. He earned a bachelors degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois and a masters degree from Loyola University. Dana was a licensed clinical social worker, a certified addiction counselor, and held a Type 73 School Counselor Certification. He worked as an addiction counselor at Highland Park Hospital and Evanston Hospital and operated a private practice in Deerfield for a time. He also worked at Memorial Medical Center as a consultant, as a counselor at Niles North High School, and at Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health Center. Dana was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and The Heimers. He enjoyed spending time with his son Peter, coaching, baseball, sailing, swimming, and music. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Patty Young; son, Peter Young, of Springfield; two brothers, Charles "Chuck" (Denise) Young of Lecce, Italy and Skip (Michele) Young of Fort Madison, IA; sister, Victoria Young (Marvin Wingfield) of Lynchburg, VA; and beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. The memorial gathering will begin with prayer. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Robert J. Jallas celebrant.
