Clare "Penny" Payne

She was born in Buffalo, NY, on May 15, 1939.

Penny grew up in Taylorville, IL, and graduated from Taylorville High School in 1957. She was a medical transcriptionist most of her working life and also enjoyed selling Avon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Wignot; husband, Allen Payne; son, Jeffrey Payne; and granddaughter, Samantha Prince.

Penny is survived by her children, Michael Payne of Springfield and Cindy (Ed) Weiskopf of Athens; sisters, Donna (Richard) Danner of Osage Beach, MO and Kathy (Robert) Kesner of Normal, IL; grandchildren, Michael and Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Ava, Owen, and Harper; step-grandchildren, Josh and Emily; step-great-grandchildren, Abigail, Ben, and Kottan; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Memorial Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, at St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield. Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Father George Nellikunnel, S.A.C. officiating.
