Christopher A. Reed

Christopher A. Reed, 65, of Springfield, died at 6:42 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Memorial Medical Center. Christopher was born on April 4, 1953 in Springfield, the son of Irl W. Sr. and Christina Conlon Reed. Christopher graduated from St. James Trade School in 1971. He worked as an electrician for Reed Electric, which was his fathers company. He later went on to own and operate his own company, Chris Reed Electric. Most recently, Christopher worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation in the Communications Center for the last 8 years. His colleagues in the comm center were like a second family to him. His passion was collecting lanterns, especially railroad lanterns, and he was interested in old steam engines and trains. Christopher was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings, Lynnie Shaw of Springfield, Irl W. "Bill" Reed, Jr. of Silverton, OR, and Nancy (John) Simpson of Springfield; nieces and nephews, Bill (Kathryn) Shaw, Elizabeth Anne Stallone, Amy Reed (Dan Cox), Monica (Edward) Kane, Morgan Reed, and Christina Simpson; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019, at Butler Funeral HomeSpringfield, 900 South 6th Street, Springfield. A memorial ceremony will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating. Private family burial will be held at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Fidelity at a later date.
