He was born in Springfield, April 10, 1932 the son of Charles N. and Kathryn Thomas Whitworth. He married Norma Proctor in Springfield, August 16, 1952 and she survives.
He is also survived by his two sons; Steven (wife Melanie) Whitworth of Collinsville, IL and Craig (wife Mary Baksys) Whitworth of Springfield. There are two grandchildren; Alyssa and Tyler Whitworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
Charlie honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He was a past member of the YMCA and worked with the Indian Guides through the YMCA. He assisted with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 24, sponsored by the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping and the outdoors.
He was the office manager for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. for 30 years, and then retired in 1992 from the State of Illinois Department on Aging as a trainer.
Cremation Rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory. Inurnment will be at a later date in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Those who wish may direct memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice.
