Charles Elwood "Elmo" Flannery, 69, of Springfield, died at 12:35 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2009. Charles was born January 24, 1940 in Traveller's Rest, KY, the son of Martin and Irene Robinson Flannery. He married Janet Kay Crummett on September 19, 1964 in Farmer City; she preceded him in death. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam. He operated a dry cleaning business until his retirement in 2001. He is also preceded in death by his father; a son, Greg Flannery; a sister, Carol Flannery; and a niece; Vicky Allen. He is survived by his mother, Irene Flannery of Kentucky; a son, Toby (wife, Jessica) Flannery of Woodridge; a daughter, Julie (husband, James) Johnson of Springfield; four grandchildren, Jerica and Jordan Johnson and Maija and Aili Flannery; two sisters, Jean (husband, Bobby) Allen and Linda (husband, Phillip) Gay all of Kentucky; and a niece, Beverly Noe. Family will receive friends from 12:00 12:45 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral ceremonies will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Bob Flannery officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 321 W.
