Chuck was born November 23, 1933, in Springfield, the son of James Francis and Loretta Keefner Phillips. He married Mary Jane Sahlinger on June 30, 1956, in Los Angeles, CA; she preceded him in death in 1981.
Chuck proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was employed with General Telephone until his retirement in 1987 after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and the Good Government Club. Chuck volunteered at the Public Library updating their obituary records from the 1800s and 1900s. He was also a long-term caregiver for his cousin, Mary Coughlin. Chuck enjoyed talking on his Ham Radio.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James and Richard Phillips.
Chuck is survived by his son, Mark Charles (Deanna) Phillips of Newport, OR; daughter, Dorothy (Steve) Keathley of Oak Hills, CA; grandson, Sean Phillips of Spring Hill, TN; and brother, Thomas (Connie) Phillips of Sacramento, CA.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Dominic Rankin, celebrant. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be limited capacity.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
