My Hero Brother  A story about Charles Joseph Phillips my brother Chuck. This is just one small example of what kind of a person he was.  Many years ago when my wife then fiancé Connie and I got a few days to get away we headed south towards Las Angeles on the way developed car trouble, the alternator quit and we were as they say dead in the water. I called my Hero brother Chuck and asked him if he could get me an alternator for my Datsun 310 GX at one of his local auto parts stores. He said he would see and called me back about an hour later and asked where I was.  I told him Paso Robles. He said he has one in hand and was on the way. Not really knowing how far away we were from him. ( I discovered later, about 210 miles) A little 1AM he arrived and he handed me the alternator and about 30 or so minutes later we were on the way to his house. Connie drove him in his LTD Ford crown Victoria while he slept and I drove my car. Somewhere around 4 or 5 am we got to Norms restaurant near his house and ate breakfast. Then went his home and everybody took a long nap.  That is how my brother Chuck was always there when somebody needed help.  That was how Charles Joseph CHUCK Phillips lived his life, not just me,but helping anyone who needed his help.  I’ll see you later Chuck, Love Tom.

We have so many fun memories of our dear cousin Chuck!  What a gentle, kind person who always brought a smile to our faces.  We had many great trips to Las Vegas.  He was always up for an adventure!  Our sweet cousin, we will miss you always!  Love, your "cuz", Mary & John

He was an amazing, one of a kind guy - caring, giving, smart, selfless, optimistic, hardworking, unique sense of humor - just to name a few qualities. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ bless and comfort my family during this time of loss.    My Dad was stationed on Guam during the Korean War.  When Dad joined the U.S. Navy, the recruits received career training.  The men were told to form lines: one for cooks, another for electricians, and so on.  Dad was trying to decide which line to stand in.  One of his buddies grabbed his arm and said, “Get in the electricians line with me.”   That decision led to a lifelong career in electronics and communications.  Dad was a key member of the telecommunications management team for the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics.  In his spare time, he was a member of a network of Southern California civilian ham radio operators prepared for emergency situations.  Dad was an intelligent and gifted man who performed many acts of kindness during his time on Earth.  My parents were leaders in Boy Scouts of America’s Great Western Council of Los Angeles.  They led by example when they taught us the Scout Motto, “Be Prepared,” and the Scout Oath, “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”    The Scout Law:   A Scout is trustworthy,  loyal,  helpful,  friendly,  courteous,  kind,  obedient,  cheerful,  thrifty,  brave,  clean,  and reverent.  One of my fondest memories of Dad is the day he accompanied me to the Santa Monica Animal Shelter to pick out my first dog.  Dad saw a cheerful black-and-white puppy who was scheduled to be euthanized.  He insisted that we rescue that little dog.  Every night when Dad came home from work, our puppy leaped for joy.  (That lively little dog had springs in his paws; he could jump two feet straight up in the air.)  He followed Dad everywhere.  They ate dinner and watched TV together.  I know that when Dad arrived in Heaven, he was welcomed by my Mom and my uncles – and by happy barking.  In lieu of flowers, I would suggest contributions for diabetes research.
