Carolyn J. Daniels, 83, of Springfield, died at 8:50 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Johns Hospital. Carolyn was born July 30, 1934 in Eldorado, IL, the daughter of Claude Lincoln and Mayme McClernon Bowling. She married James Daniels, Sr. in 1958 and he preceded her in death in 2007. Carolyn graduated from Eldorado High School and earned her bachelors degree in Education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Later in her career she earned her masters degree in Counseling from Sangamon State University. She was a teacher for 40 years at Hay Edwards Elementary School and after retiring, Carolyn was a substitute teacher at both private and public schools. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish where she was active in the Legion of Mary, Caregivers and volunteered as an usher at Sangamon Auditorium. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and was very active in their lives. Carolyn also enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle. She often could be seen visiting with family and friends on her front porch. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jamie Johnson; twin brother, Carroll Bowling; and sister, Viola Bowling. She is survived by her children, James Milton (wife, Kate) Daniels, Jr., M.D. of Quincy, Mary Ann Johnson of Springfield, Katy Martin of Springfield, and Ann (husband, Bill) Neale of Pleasant Plains; grandchildren, Tim Johnson, Jr., Jamie Johnson, Jason Johnson, Toby Daniels, Maggie Daniels, Lizzie Daniels, Eren Schnell, Shane Sullivan, Elijah Martin, and Robert Neale; great-grandchildren, Bella Staab, Eva Johnson, Ivy Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, and Lakyn Pritchard; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield. Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant.
