Carol Van Nevel, 73, of Pleasant Plains, passed away on Sunday September 21, 2014 at her residence. She was born on July 3, 1941 in Plentywood, Montana to Henry and Erna Kazeck Gosso. She married Albert J. Van Nevel on June 20, 1964 in Chicago. Albert preceded her in death on January 10, 2007.
Mrs. Van Nevel is survived by her two sons: Jon (Melissa Webster) Van Nevel of Tampa, FL., and Alan (Kim) Van Nevel of Ridgecrest, CA., two grandchildren: Hannah and Logan Van Nevel, two sisters Henrietta Carpenter and Lynne LeMire and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Marion Curtis.
Carol graduated from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. She worked for McCormick Theological Seminary Library in Chicago before becoming a full-time homemaker and raising her sons. As the boys grew, she then worked for Special Insurance Services and the National Fraternal Society for the deaf both located in Springfield. Carol enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, and arts and crafts which included knitting prayer shawls, making Santa Claus Dolls and a variety of other seasonal themed dolls and ornaments. She thoroughly enjoyed sharing her skilled craftwork with friends, family and neighbors.
The family will meet friends for a memorial visitation from 10:00am until 12:00pm on Saturday September 27, 2014 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road followed by a luncheon at Peter Cartwright Church in Pleasant Plains.
