

Carol Coultas Lohman, 88, of Springfield died July 28 at her home. She was born December 25, 1923 in Jacksonville, Illinois to Mary and Orville Coultas. She married Walter Lohman of Ashland on June 26, 1948.
Mrs. Lohman received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois College in 1945. Because of her interest in higher education, she served on the Illinois College Board of Trustees for 25 years where she became Chairman of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee, a member of the Executive Committee and Vice Chairman of the Board. Illinois College recognized her with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in 1996.
She was appointed by four different Illinois governors to the Board of Governors of State Colleges and Universities and served on the Illinois Board of Higher Education for 17 years.
Her civic involvement included being a founding director and officer of the Sangamon State University Foundation (now UIS); founding director and officer of Friends of Memorial Medical Center; member of the Illinois Symphony Association Board of Directors; founding member of the Board of Directors of the Dana-Thomas House Foundation; member of the Illinois Arts Council; and a member of the Illinois Executive Mansion Association. She was also an Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
As an avid golfer, she played in a number of Springfield city golf tournaments and was the golf champion at Illini Country Club several times.
Surviving is her daughter Berta James of Dallas, TX, three grandchildren, Sarah Cantu, Nicole Pacino, Ted James, and son-in-law David Pacino. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lohman and daughter Marian Pacino.

Cremation will be accorded and memorial services will take place at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2 pm on July 31 with private interment at the Ashland cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Lohman Memorial Fund at Westminster Presbyterian Church or Memorial Medical Center Foundation.
