He was born on Jan. 15, 1934, in Nokomis, IL, the son of the late Blazius and Ina (Kelley) Miller. He married Mary Patricia “Pat” Hafliger on Oct. 22, 1976 in Springfield, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2005.
Carl is survived by his daughter Sandra “Sandy” (husband David) Miller Olson, Susan Katers, and Missy Webber (husband Ken) McBride; 14 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Peggy Sue Miller Denney; his son Philip “Phil” Lennie Miller; his siblings Doris (husband Homer) Miller Squires, Clark (wife Ida) Miller, Clarence (wife Laura) Miller, and Katherine (husband Web) Miller Webster; and several aunts and uncles.
Carl moved to Springfield in the 1940’s, graduated from Riverton High School in 1952 and in 1953 went to the U.S. Army, serving for 3 years. He worked out of the Operating Engineer’s Local from 1956-1959, then from 1959 till 1989 he worked for McRoy Roland Machinary as a mechanic. Then in 1989 he worked for MRS in Decatur, IL for 4 years. In 1993 he worked for J. Wright of Springfield until retiring with his wife in 1998 and they enjoyed travelling until July 2005. From 2005 to 2012 he worked part-time with Prairie International until he settled down for full retirement until March 24, 2017. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church since 1975.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 1 pm until time of the funeral service at 2 pm.
Pastor William Burton will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Clearlake Township, where he will be laid to rest with his loving wife and son.
