Jean was born on September 15, 1927 in Bandera, TX, the daughter of Frank and Gertrude Troop Thomas. She grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma State University where she met a handsome Navy veteran, Joseph McClure. They were married in Holdenville, Oklahoma on September 5, 1948 and he survives.
Jean and Joe started their married life in Grayville, Illinois. They lived in North Dakota, Montana, and West Virginia before settling in Mt. Vernon, IL in 1959. Jean taught kindergarten in Mt. Vernon at West Salem and J.L. Buford Elementary Schools. They lived in Haines City, FL for several years and eventually moved to Springfield.
In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by three children; David, (wife, Cheryl) McClure of Demorest, GA, Marti McClure of Peoria, IL and Holly (husband, Jack) Taylor of Springfield. There are six grandchildren; Kelly (husband, Alex) Tracy, Matthew (wife, Rachel) McClure, David (wife, Lauren) McClure, Charles (wife, Janette Spenny) Taylor, Peter Taylor, and Caroline Taylor; and five great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Glenn Thomas.
Jean’s family would like to express gratitude to the caring staff at Concordia Village. Jean was blessed by your excellent care, kindness, and patience each and every day.
