Bernie Beard, 60, of Springfield, died at 11:19 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at his residence. Bernie was born on July 28, 1946 in Springfield, Illinois the son of Charles O. and Norma Vestel Beard. He married Terri Thompson on December 23, 1992 in Springfield. In 1964, Bernie graduated from New Berlin High School in New Berlin, Illinois; he then attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale graduating with an Associates Degree in architectural design. He owned and operated Audio-Techni Services in Springfield for twenty-one years. Active in the community, Bernie held memberships with various clubs and organizations. He was a member of the International Alliance of Stage Employees Local #138 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #193. He was also a member of the Springfield Milers, Sangamon Riders, National Rifle Association, National Sporting Clays Association, the Honda Riders Club of America and an American Motorcycling Association Charter Life Member. Bernie enjoyed sport shooting and motorcycling the most. He was a proud “Poppy” and truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Terri Beard of Springfield; two sons: Todd Beard and Terry Beard both of Auburn; one daughter: Kelly (husband, Tim) Murphy of Bloomington, Indiana; six grandchildren: Bryce, Ellison, Emily, Genevieve, Zack, Morgan and Alex; one goddaughter: Allison Cruz; one sister: Kathy Beard of New Berlin; one aunt: Dorothy Morris of Jacksonville; one niece: Kristina (husband, Bill) Hagen and great-niece Lauren of Flagstaff, Arizona and several cousins. Family will welcome friends from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin. Graveside Ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Woodwreath Cemetery in New Berlin, with Pastor Bob Armstrong officiating. Family and friends may meet at 10:30 a.m. at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home for the procession to Woodwreath Cemetery.
