Art Sescleifer

Art Sescleifer, 85, of Springfield, died September 19, 2008 at the Regency in Springfield. He was born December 13, 1922 in Carlinville, the son of Barney and Eva Borlindilli Sescleifer. He married Marthann Smith in San Jose, Illinois in 1949. She preceded him in death in 1999. He was also preceded in death by a grandson and sister. Mr. Sescleifer retired from the Chicago and Illinois Midland Railroad (C&IM). He also worked for the United Way and the International Service Agency. He retired from the United States Naval Reserve in 1987, having served in the Korean War and World War II. He completed the Navy's V-12 College Training Program at the University of Notre Dame during World War II, helping to meet the urgent need for Navy commissioned officers in the war effort. He then went on to serve in the Naval Reserve. He was a member of the Naval Reserve Association, the Navy Club and the Military Officers Association of America. He served for many years on the scholarship committee of Lincoln Land Community College Foundation and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Art is survived by his two daughters, JoAnn (husband, Bill) Bartolomucci and Jan (husband, Ross Irlam) Sescleifer, both of Springfield; his son, Dan (wife, Cindy) Sescleifer of Clarkson Valley, MO; 6 grandchildren, Amy Bartolomucci of Springfield, Dan Bartolomucci of Loveland, CO; Jane, Anne, David and Kate Sescleifer of Clarkson Valley, MO; a niece; 3 great nieces and several great-great nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Dr. Lonnie Lee, officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County performing military honors.
