He was born on August 5, 1927, in Springfield, the son of Americo Sr. and Edith (Bloom) Gaio. Americo married H. Jane Coumbes on October 14, 1978, in Springfield.
Americo graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in 1945. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Americo went on to work for Amrhein & Sunbeam Bakery for 37 years while bartending for Red Coach for 10 years, finally retiring from State of IL Secretary of State Police Security Department after over 20 years of service. He enjoyed Chicago Cubs games, SHG Football, Notre Dame games, and big band and New Orleans Jazz music. Americo was hardworking, kind, and righteous in his own way. He did all of his jobs well and had a great work ethic. His family and friends were very important to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Greg Lovekamp; and brothers, Paul and Raymond Gaio.
Americo is survived by his wife, Jane Gaio; daughters, Janice (Stephan) Williams and Kristie (Willie) Little; sons, Marty (Laura), Wes, and Brad Gaio, and Michael, Brad (Ginger) Lovekamp; sister, Mary Contri; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Graveside Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with Nick Butcher officiating. Military Honors will be provided.
