Allan E. Bennett, 85, of Springfield, passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. Allan was born July 5, 1927 in Springfield, the son of Farrel "Pop" and Mary Bland Doom. He married Lois Bottrell on November 2, 1952 at Illiopolis Methodist Church. Allan was a laborer for Union #477 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted at age 17 and became a Sea Bee. He was a member of the Dawson United Methodist Church, and American Legion Post 32. Allan was most proud of raising his children, but also enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time at the Legion, and most of all, spending time with his wife and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Ellen Ingram; brother, Donald Bennett; and infant brother, Ronald Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Lois Bennett of Springfield; son, Allan F. (wife, Gina) Bennett of Springfield; daughter, Lois A. Bennett of Danville; two grandchildren, Crystal of Danville and Jacob of Springfield; one great-grandchild, Maya of Danville; one sister, Gloria (husband, Earl) Miller of West Virginia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012 at Kirlin- Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Dick Piscatelli officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
