Robert V. "Chip" Spayd Jr., age 67, of Bellbrook, Ohio passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Kettering Memorial Hospital. Chip was born on June 16, 1955 to the late Robert V. and Joan (Whitehair) Spayd.
Chip was a member of the first graduating class of the The Miami Valley School in 1974 and attended The College of Wooster, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree majoring in History. After college, he was an entrepreneur and started his own company, in partnership with his best friend Walt Gerould, called Metropolitan Promotions, providing travel information and tips for the Dayton and Cincinnati metro areas, their restaurants, taxi services and various other venues. He then worked for J.M.Woodhull, Inc., selling copy machines and gaining sales experience. In 1984, he began his career with The Berry Company and was an Account Executive, moving up to Executive Account Manager and in 1997 became a National Sales Manager for the company. Chip retired in April 2008 from the Berry Company when it was sold to a private equity group, now AT&T.
Chip is survived by his wife of 33 years, Debbie (Dalton) Spayd, his three daughters, Jennifer (Bryan Kennison) Loreant, Erica (Brad Jones) Hamden, Ashley (Daniel) Hobbs; his grandchildren, Kyle, Briana, Kalie, Hailey, Mikey, Dylan, Aiden, Dillon, Kendall, Grayson, Deacon; his great-grandchildren Zion and Draven; and his sister, Lisa (Reb) Bilinski, as well as a multitude of other family members and friends, who richly blessed his life.
Chip’s story is one of a man who met a woman, on a blind date, with three daughters, fell in love and they became a family. He had a huge heart and an even bigger sense of humor and was a loving, devoted husband to Debbie and her best friend in life. They were a team. Chip adored his girls, loved them unconditionally and was always there for them with guidance, support, encouragement and was the best “Dad he didn’t have to be”. He has been blessed with a family that continues to grow well beyond the original five and has been the very best Papaw to his grandchildren, who loved him beyond words and he them. Two new, recent additions to the family gave him the title great-papaw, with a new generation to help guide, protect and love. He was a loving brother, brother-in-law, uncle and a loyal friend to so many. His passions were Ohio State Football, fishing, gardening, and great food, whether prepared by him or dining out at one of his favorite restaurants. He loved summer days, sitting on the patio and listening to his music and there was no greater joy in his life, than being at the pool, in the summer, with his grandchildren. His memory will live on forever in his family’s hearts and minds.
A visitation for Robert will be held Sunday, June 18, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Home, 40 North Main Street, Springboro, Ohio 45066. The Funeral Service will be Monday, June 19, 2023 at 10:45 AM at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, OH.
