David J. Schmiesing, age 73, of Springboro, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024 surrounded by his family at Kettering Memorial Hospital in Kettering, Ohio. He was born in Sidney, Ohio on May 5, 1951, the son of the late Cletus and Janet (Glynn) Schmiesing and step-son to the late Mary (Pleiman) Schmiesing.
He was preceded in death by his brother Cletus Schmiesing Jr., stepson Ryan Smith, and sister in-laws Gladys Schmiesing and CIndy Schmiesing. David is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Diane M. (Zink) Schmiesing, whom he married on October 10, 2003; his three children Kimberly Kaye (Rick) Kipp, Ryan J. (Steve Cartell) Schmiesing, Molly M. (Richard) Bornhorst; three stepchildren, Christi Barry and significant other Dominick Gross, Candice Smith, and daughter in-law Dani Smith; eight cherished grandchildren, Kerisha (Sultan) Childress, Ashtin (Kaleb) Cantrell, Collin (Gracen) Bornhorst, Kamryn (Victoria) Bornhorst, Andrew Barry, Justin Barry, Savannah Smith, Sierra Smith, Emerson Smith, Cohyn Smith; and two great grandchildren Liam Cantrell and Luka Cantrell; his sisters, brothers, and in-laws, Barb & Denny Marchal, Gerald Schmiesing, Eunice & Mike Ernst, Bill Schmiesing, Jane & Larry Henderson, Diane and Denny Hoying, Richard & Cindy Schmiesing, Fred & Becky Schmiesing, Mark & Brenda Schmiesing, Ron Schmiesing & Kim Rienke, Pam & Tom Kerrigan, and Jo Schmiesing; and step-family Ron & Pat (deceased) Pleiman and Gary & Karen Pleiman. He is also survived by step-grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David loved spending time with family and friends on their boat, at their lake house, calling bingo, and attending programs and events of family members. David was a graduate of Houston High School and spent a career in commercial construction, including many years at Ferguson Construction Company. He and his wife owned D&D Construction and he most recently worked at Village Rental as a manager.
A celebration of life will be held at Anderson Funeral Home in Springboro, Ohio on Thursday, June 13 beginning at 11:30am. Family and Friends are invited to the Springboro Eagles immediately following the celebration.
