Dave truly was a devoted family man. In 1974 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Brun. Together they built a family filled with love, laughter, and so many cherished memories, many of which he captured with his always-ready camera. His family called him “POPparazzi.” He was the proud father of Tony (Alison), Eric (Casie and Christian), Sarah (Chris), and Claire (Jonathan). One of his greatest joys came from being “Pop” to his adoring grandchildren, Madison, Rylee, Hannah, Aeson, Theo, Penelope, Tennyson, Vivienne, Kingston, and Journey.
Dave is also survived by his brothers, Scott (Roberta) and Harry Jr., brothers and sister-in-law Dave Brun and Bill and Sue Cook, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. His loving parents, Harry Sr. and Etta Mae, and his dear sister, Susan, preceded him in death.
A graduate of Wilbur Wright High School and Sinclair Community College, Dave’s career spanned years in commercial plumbing design and fire protection services. He was always ready to dive in and learn something new to solve any problem or tackle any home improvement project. His family always knew he was their go-to for anything.
Dave was a member of the Bellbrook Lions Club for over 35 years. He was dedicated to running the “Pop Pitch” booth at their annual festival to raise funds to support local community projects, as well as coaching in the club’s youth baseball program during his younger years.
An avid golfer, Dave respected and loved the game. Sharing his enthusiasm and golf tips with others, especially young people, gave him such joy. He started playing at the age of 8 and competed on both his high school and college teams. He also caddied in the PGA tournament as a teenager when it was held in Dayton. Later he qualified for and competed in Ohio’s Long Drive Contest for several years. He may not have always known where his drives were going, but he could definitely hit them long! Dave continued to enjoy golf throughout his life.
Beyond golf, Dave was known for his kind heart, generosity, sharp wit and unwavering support for those he loved. Dave was a quiet, sensitive man with a heart of gold.
His legacy of love for family and friends (as well as for golf, dark chocolate, ice cream, sweet tea and Pepsi) will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is so deeply missed here, but we know heaven’s gates were open for him upon arrival!
