Tillie Schwartz

Tillie Schwartz, 93, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on January 24, 2023. Born in the Bronx, she married her husband of 67 years, Morris Schwartz, at the age of 19, and they worked for many years together in business. Later in life, to fulfill her dream of obtaining a college degree, she returned to school and earned a B.S. at the age of 50. She rose to the level of Assistant Town Planner for the Town of Clarkstown and served the community until her retirement in March of 1998. After her retirement, she volunteered for a number of organizations, and played a role in the sisterhood at the Nanuet Hebrew Center, where she continued to worship for the remainder of her life.

She leaves behind two loving sons, Robert and William, loving daughter-in-law Ellen, two devoted grandchildren, Laura and Noah John, and several nieces, nephews, and many great friends. An avid reader and a great conversationalist, she was always there to lend a helping hand and offer a homemade meal, whether or not you were hungry. We wish her speedy passage to eternal happiness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday January 26, 2022, 11:00 AM at Congregation Shir Shalom, 411 S. Little Tor Road, New City, NY 10956. Interment will follow at Beth El Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ 07652. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Schwartz’s memory may be made to Congregation Shir Shalom.
