Steven Barney Kasser, 39, of Edgewater, NJ, passed away on October 2, 2024. Born on May 20, 1985, in Brooklyn, NY, Steven was the beloved son of Toby Kasser and the late Theresa Kasser. He is survived by his devoted sister, Dana Kasser, and a large, loving extended family.
Steven was cherished by his aunts and uncles: Lynne De Los Santos, Jacqueline Cashen (Gary), Al Ihne (Pat), Freddy Fisher (Linda), Dean Nickell (Tina), Ryan Nickell, Donna Nickell, and Colin Nickell. He was also a proud cousin to Kevin Cashen, Joseph Cashen (Julia, and their son Charlie), Michelle Cashen (Alex), Sara De Los Santos, Aubrey Karakarlis, Cali Shaughnessy, Justin Nickell, Jordan Nickell, Sean, Alana, Al, and Serenity. Steven was also a loving stepson to Andrea Kasser and stepbrother to Mario, Matias, and Amelia.
Steven spent his childhood enjoying the sun and surf in Rockaway Beach, NY and making lasting memories at his late grandparents’ home (Carole and Lawrence) in Wading River. He graduated from Clarkstown South High School in 2003 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from St. Thomas Aquinas College.
Steven’s professional journey began in high school, working at his father's bagel store, Bagel Boys. His dedication and hard work led him to become a partner in the business, where he was known as the friendly face of the establishment, warmly welcoming customers with his ever-present smile.
A passionate advocate for physical fitness, Steven began weight lifting at the age of 15. His love of the gym evolved into a professional endeavor as he sought to open an Anytime Fitness franchise. A self-proclaimed “bad golfer, coffee addict, and lifter of weights,” he could often be found on the golf course or engrossed in fantasy football. A long-suffering New York Giants fan and devoted Yankees fan, Steven loved sharing the thrill of sports with friends and family.
Family gatherings were never complete without spirited games of May I, a tradition that highlighted his playful spirit and competitive nature. He was especially proud of being the first to achieve a perfect score of zero, and often won more than his fair share of games.
Above all, Steven cherished his relationships with his sister Dana and father Toby, alongside a large, loving circle of family and friends.
