Richard Frank, 89, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, he was a lifelong educator and artist who taught architectural drawing and industrial arts at a public high school. He also opened Out of Hand, a store in Nyack, New York, where he sold his own crafts, jewelry, and artwork. After retiring, he took up golf, painted, taught his grandchildren how to drive, and cherished his great-grandchildren.
At the age of 19, Richard took a job as a summer camp counselor. On the bus ride up to camp, he met Wilma Kimels, who had inadvertently been put on the “boy’s bus.” Wilma watched as Richard consoled a homesick young child, and she fell for him immediately. They married four years later, and together they built a life of love, laughter, and adventure. They celebrated their 65th anniversary last June.
Richard is survived by Wilma; their children Allison and Bob (Raffaella); their grandchildren Madeline (Alex), Gregory, Gabriel, and Dani; and their great-grandchildren Riley and Austin.
