Marvin S. Hurwitz, of Warwick, NY, passed away on July 7, 2023, in the care and comfort of his family. He was born on May 21, 1932 in New York, NY, the second child of Irving and Sylvia (Feldhun) Hurwitz. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1950, and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He met his beloved wife, Patricia (Jackson) Hurwitz, who survives him, while they both were working at Pan American World Airways. They wed on December 20, 1959, and were married for 63 years.
He became an insurance broker, his occupation until he retired in 1997. In the early years of their marriage Marv and Pat lived in Washington Heights, NY. They then spent 32 years on Long Island in Levittown, NY, raising their family of four children, all of whom survive him, including Mark S. Hurwitz (Sheralee Shera Hurwitz), Craig S. Hurwitz (Jacqueline Hurwitz), Barbara Hurwitz Lerche (Adam Lerche), and Elizabeth Hurwitz Eldridge (David Eldridge). Over the years, Marv took many business and insurance courses and eventually finished his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Empire State College (now Empire State University) when he was 50 years old. Education was very important to him, a value he passed along to his children, all of whom have earned advanced degrees. A huge fan of the NY Yankees and Knicks, he also reveled in physical activity and fitness, as he played golf, softball, and basketball, and he regularly exercised by weight training, swimming, running, and walking.
Marv and Pat retired to a senior community in Manchester, NJ, and for a number of their retirement years they split time between New Jersey and Ft Myers, FL. They often traveled with or to visit family. In his later years they moved to Orangeburg, NY, near the home of their daughter Barbara, and he lived his final year in Warwick, NY, in the home of their daughter Elizabeth. Nothing was more important to Marv than his family, which was the utmost priority for him. In addition to his children, their spouses, a niece, nephews and their spouses and children, he is survived by 12 loving and devoted grandchildren: Brian Hurwitz (Caitie Gribbin), Corey Lerche, Nicole (Hurwitz) Schottenstein (Benjamin Schottenstein), Sarah Lerche, Rachel Hurwitz, Elise Hurwitz, Melanie Lerche, Jacob Hurwitz, Matthew Hurwitz, Kyle Eldridge, Ethan Eldridge, and Molly Eldridge. Marv was pre-deceased by his sister, Marilyn (Hurwitz) Cohen (Samuel Cohen), and his parents.
