Jay H. Rothbaum, 81, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife, Jill, by his side on November 15th, 2023. Devoted father of Sarah Rothbaum (Phil Payne), Rabbi Michael Rothbaum (Anthony Russell Jr.), Lt. Richard Skala (Simone Lennon), Harrison Rothbaum. Loving grandfather of Jacob and Abigail Skala. Caring step-brother of Dr. Kenneth Rothbaum. Compassionate supporter to his many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Great friend to all who knew him.
Born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Herman and Sarah Rothbaum, Jay graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School, where he was a member of the Longfellow Society and a dedicated Boy Scout. He later attended Brooklyn College of Pharmacy where he became a registered pharmacist. For 40 years he was the sole proprietor of Hillcrest Thriftmed Pharmacy where he became a pillar of the community working alongside his wife, Jill, offering medical counseling and advice to countless customers. Past president of the Rockland Pharmaceutical Society, and past president of the Westchester and Rockland Society of Pharmacists. Current treasurer and board member of WRSP, and current directorum of the Alpha Zeta Omega Pharmacy Fraternity NY Alumni. Proud Jew and American, lover of all things Ford Motor Company, devoted and loyal fan of the Detroit Lions and New York Mets (because the Dodgers left Brooklyn), and one of the few Jewish Brooklynites who followed NASCAR in the 1950’s. He was an avid reader, lover of classic movies, and a fan of music from Perez Prado to Frank Sinatra. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.
Funeral services for Jay will be held Friday, November 17, 2023, 11:00 AM at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, New York 10977. Interment will take place immediately following services at Gates of Zion Cemetery, 670 Saddle River Road, Airmont, New York 10970.
