Fred Martin Kirschenbaum, known to all as Freddie Roman, passed away peacefully on November 26th, 2022, at the age of 85 surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in Newark in 1937, raised in Jamaica, Queens, and met his wife of 63 years, Ethel, during their studies at New York University.
Freddie took to the stage early, getting his start as the master of ceremonies at the age of fifteen at the Crystal Springs Hotel in the Catskill Mountains. A natural born comic, he performed from the Borscht Belt to Broadway and beyond. His jokes brought laughter to all who heard them, including two Presidents of the United States. He was a giant in the entertainment industry, as beloved by his peers as he was by his audience. Freddie presided as Dean of the Friars Club for over two decades and took pride in mentoring a new generation of comics. Generous at heart, Freddie was dedicated to bringing levity to the world through countless fundraisers, community events, and daily interactions.
Freddie is predeceased by his son Alan Kirschenbaum, and survived by his wife Ethel, his daughter Judi Levin JD (Serle Levin MD), his daughter-in-law Vicki Juditz, and his four grandchildren Michael Levin, Madeline Levin, Molly Kirschenbaum, and Andrew Levin. Fred was a true family man who called his grandkids everyday just to check in. A dear friend to all, Freddie leaves a legacy of laughter and love.
