Evelyn Rand Whalen, 82, passed away on April 23, 2020 in Suffern, NY. Born in the Bronx on May 13, 1937, Evelyn moved to Yonkers and then Spring Valley, NY. She lovingly raised three children, Wendy Rand Winick (Spouse, Mitchell); David Rand (Spouse, Dorothy) and Eileen Rand Whelan (Spouse, Kevin).
She graduated from Dominican College in Orangeburg, NY with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Political Science while working full time as a Research Assistant at Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) in Orangeburg, NY. She was instrumental in helping the Research Scientists with studies done on Mental Illness with the homeless population of NYC and the boroughs and many other grants they were awarded due to Evelyn’s involvement. After 15 years at NKI, she then worked at the Valley Cottage Library which she loved up to her retirement.
Evelyn was an avid mystery reader and loved her collection of hardcover books. Her favorite activities were playing mah jong with her friends; Shopping; Travel; Knitting, Setting up social events; Hitting the casinos (especially BlackJack), and spending time with her family.
Left to honor Evelyn and remember her love are her children and their spouses; her sister, Kate Bomser, her nephews, Jay and Seth Bomser, her nieces, Denise Cowan and Barbara Petilli Lutz, her grandchildren; Lee, Neil, Kris, Jessica and great grandchildren, Addison, Jordan and Matteo.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. at New Montefiore Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
