William August Kunkel, age 91 of Spring Hill, FL passed away on December 12th, 2017. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Joseph and Karolina Kunkel. Bill grew up in Manhattan before being drafted into the Army during WWII. He enlisted into the Air Force and served our country during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Marie Kunkel on May 22nd, 1954 before moving to Valhalla, NY. The couple settled down and raised their family in Montrose, NY. During his civilian life, he traveled and sold leather goods and luggage before retiring and moving to Spring Hill, Florida in 1995. Bill was devout in faith and a parishioner and Eucharistic minister for St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Bill was a Volunteer Fireman and Volunteer Fire Police. He was also a member of the Happy Wanderers and enjoyed cruising and travel. Bill will be dearly missed but remembered for his love for his family, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as Pops. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 63 years, Marie Kunkel; daughters, Linda Kunkel, Karen (Bill) Schaphorst, Marianne (Sean) Mulleavey; sister, Elfrieda; 5 grandchildren, Eric, Adam, Emilie, Kelsey, Mark; 2 great-grandchildren, Logan, Amara. A visitation will be held on Monday, 12/18 from 2-6 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home in Spring Hill, FL. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, 12/19 at 11 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church before he is laid to rest at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens.
