Ginny Nelson, age 87, of Brooksville, FL, died at her home on Sunday, March 12, 2017. A 15 year resident of Brooksville, coming from Riverview, FL where she lived for 11 years before coming to Florida from Shirley, NY. Ginny was born on September 12, 1929, in the Bronx, NY, to the late Charles & Bertha Geiger. Ginny was a very avid Bowler and received awards for bowling games over 250, 600 Series, Big Four Club, WIBC league champion and many more. She bowled in both NY and at the Thunder Bird Lanes, in Ruskin, FL. Ginny was very fond of playing Bingo every Friday night at the Brookridge County Club, in Brooksville, FL, and she was known to play 15 cards at once. She was also an avid Pinochle player and ran the Pinochle Club at the Oak Hill Hospital Senior Center. Ginny also very actively enjoyed going to the movie theater, and loved to keep a journal of all the movie stars and they’re comings and goings. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 28 years, Jack Nelson, who died on July 19, 1994 and her brother Charlie Geiger. Ginny is lovingly survived by her son, John (Kelly) Campo of Riverview, FL. daughters; Elaine (Ed) Halpin, of Ronkonkoma, NY, and Karin (Andy) Schaefer, of Brooksville, FL. Ginny was the loving grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed by her brother, Freddy Geiger, of Cheshire, MA. At Ginny’s request, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and an invitation will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, in honor of her great grandson Lane, who is winning his battle with cancer, memorial donations may be made in his name Lane Romano to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN.
