Richard Lewis Poore Jr. born on March 7, 1925 in Chrisman, IL passed away October 14, 2015, in Spring Hill, FL. Richard moved from Crawfordsville, IN in 1988 with his wife Hazel H. Poore. Richard leaves behind his wife of 68 years Hazel, four daughters; Donna L. (Ned) Dobberfuhl and Linda J. Lobeck, both of San Antonio, TX, Patricia A. (Mark) Hewitt of Palmersville, TN and Susan E. (James) Garrett of Weeki Wachee, FL. Four grandchildren; Catherine L. Aldrich, James M. Garrett, Jeffrey H. Hewitt, Erin E. Colson, and two great-grandchildren; Meagan and Logan Aldrich; sisters Marie Davidson and Roberta Moffatt and brother Robert Poore. Richard was a long time member of Northcliffe Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was active in the First Republican Club of Hernando County. He had been a member of The Elks and The American Legion, Byron Cox Post NO. 72 in Crawfordsville, IN. He was an avid golfer and canoeing enthusiast involved in racing and organizing the Sugar Creek Canoe Race in Crawfordsville, IN. Wabash College sports held a special spot in his life. He also enjoyed being a Clock Operator for the area high school football games. He retired from R.R. Donnelley and Sons in 1988 after many years as a journeyman pressman. Services will be held at Turner Funeral Home located at 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL. The family and friends will gather for visitation on Monday, October 19, 2015, from 5-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 10 am, with Reverend Fran Welch and Pastor Jerry Waugh officiating. Military Honors will be held at the Florida National Cemetery, in Bushnell, FL. The Marine Corps League, Detachment #708 in Spring Hill officiating. Burial will follow services. In lieu of flowers, at Richards’s family’s request, donations may be made to the Hernando Pasco Hospice.
