Don J. Hurd, age 80, passed away Monday, September 21, 2015. He served in the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was raised in Onalaska, Wisconsin by his parents Lillian (Lund) and Charl Hurd. Don began his 31 year career with IBM in Chicago, IL and soon transferred to his beloved Green Bay, Wisconsin as Branch Administration Manager. In Green Bay he raised 3 sons and was an avid Great Lakes yachtsman and fisherman. Don not only attended the infamous Ice Bowl, but also ensured the entire family became Packers shareholders and lifelong fans. Don served as Chairman of the Brown County United Way. He moved to Florida in 1984 where he met and married the love of his life, Renate Hartman Hurd. He founded Snelling Personnel Services in Tampa, FL and continued to grow the company with his wife until 2003. Don was a 30 year resident of Tampa, Lake Jovita, and Silverthorn, FL. Don retired and made Senior Golf Club Champion at the Silverthorn Country Club while pursuing scoring his age, accomplishing 81 this year. Don is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Renate Hartman Hurd, sons Brian Hurd and his wife, Jeanette, of Lutz, FL; Steve Hurd and his wife, Laurie, of Fairmont, MN; David Hurd and his wife, Duanni, of Los Altos, CA; as well as 6 grandchildren and 6 younger siblings. Family and friends will gather at 10:30 on Friday at Turner Funeral Home, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, FL. The Memorial Service starts at 11am, with Deacon Lee Hinderscheid officiating.
