Wendy Karilyn (Fuller) Christy, age 58, of Nine Mile Falls, Washington passed away on September 1st, 2021. She passed peacefully at home in the arms of her beloved family after a short but fierce battle with cancer.
Wendy was born February 19th, 1963 in Bismarck, ND, and was raised by her adoptive grandparents Norma and Floyd Fuller. Wendy graduated from Bismarck High School in 1981 with a special interest in child development, and spent some years pursuing that interest at Mary College in Bismarck.
On May 14th, 1983 Wendy married Mark Traverse Christy at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck, and on May 10th, 1987 they welcomed their first child, Joslyn Ann, into the world. The family lived in Bismarck until 1988 when they moved to Seattle, Washington to pursue careers. Wendy worked in banking, and Mark worked in information technology. The move was personally fruitful as well, and their son Marshall Lawrence Christy was born in Seattle on September 12,1989. They remained in Seattle until 1993 when the family moved to the Silicon Valley area of California and resided in Sunnyvale until 1998 when they relocated to the Spokane area.
During her life Wendy volunteered in child care organizations such as BECEP, and worked in several daycare centers (as well as various other jobs) to make ends meet when times were hard. She was also a caring and reliable Certified Nursing Assistant at several nursing homes and home care companies. Later in life she dedicated herself to her family, taking care of them and her home.
Wendy became a member of AA on April 26, 1980, and maintained not just her sobriety for the next 41+ years, but also remained dedicated to her sponsees, and the philosophy and lifestyle of Alcoholics Anonymous until her untimely death. She spoke at 12-step conventions individually and with her husband in places like Jackson Hole, WY, Regina Canada, and of course uncountable meetings. Wendy started or participated in person and on-line 12-step meetings. Her story is in the fourth edition of the Big Book. Wendy is also a self-published romance novelist with several titles, and participated in social media writing groups (Wombats, and others too numerous to count), where many of her close friends remain.
Wendy was an adept seamstress who made her own beautiful dresses and accoutrements. She had multiple online businesses for her “Glamour to Whimsey” Etsy and Ebay presences. She attended unending craft fairs and events to sell her hand made items, none of which were ever bought pre-made. It wasn’t her way.
Wendy is survived by husband Mark Traverse Christy; her children, Joslyn Ann Christy and her husband Michael Geoffrey Rand, Marshall Lawrence Christy; her grandchildren Kylei Mae Christy Rand, Averick Thomas Rand and Hayden Duncan. Wendy was preceded in death by her birth mother and father, her adoptive grandparents Norma and Floyd Fuller, and her mother-in-law Jeannine Christy, and father-in-law Richard Christy.
The family would like to thank the angels at Hospice of Spokane for their quick and thorough assistance which enabled us to help our beloved to the next phase of existence in the heavens. Thank you Anna, Mandy, Angie, and so many unnamed others. We could not have done it without them. We’d like to personally thank two family friends who helped in this. Thank you Emily and Annie - your presence was a God-send and don’t ever forget that.
