Dr. Terrance P. Judge returned home on Wednesday March 30, 2022 to be with his sweet wife Jean whom he has been missing so much since her passing in August 2017. At the time of his passing, he was living at Touchmark in the Skilled Nursing wing recovering from a fall which had fractured his hip.
Terry was born in Helena, MT June 13, 1936 to Blanche and Thomas Judge. He delivered newspapers, worked in construction and started his own water skiing school. He enjoyed the Montana outdoors snow skiing, water skiing, fishing and hunting. He joined the Navy and entered Carroll College. He was the first Carroll College graduate to attend the University of Washington Medical School. At UW, Terry met the love of his life, Jean Ingraham. They married the week after their simultaneous graduations from undergraduate (Jean) and medical school (Terry).
Their honeymoon was spent driving to the University of Michigan where Terry interned and Jean worked. They moved to San Diego where Terry worked as a physician in the Navy and where their first two children, Terry and Laurie, were born. The family returned to Seattle in 1966 where Terry worked at the VA hospital.
In 1970, Terry and Jean moved to Spokane where their third child, Jen, joined the family and where Terry joined Drs. Shields, Sutherland and Burroughs at Spokane Cardiology. Terry helped the practice develop innovative techniques such as nuclear imaging with the first cine CT scanner privately owned in the United States. He was said to be 25 years ahead of his time in some of his work. More than anything, Terry loved people. He encouraged the “mother rule”; taking care of each patient as if they were your mother. He loved hosting big Christmas parties at his home for the Spokane Cardiology family of doctors, nurses and staff.
He was proud of his Irish heritage and liked to say his middle initial P stood for Patrick, rather than Peter, and that the Judge surname was originally Breheny; both sounded much more Irish. From his Irish heritage, he had a strong Catholic faith and family values. He enjoyed dancing, singing and telling jokes and stories. He loved spending time with his family, especially in the outdoors, skiing, sailing, waterskiing, playing tennis and flying. After retiring in 1997, Terry loved giving back to those in need through his work with Angel Flight and Rotary Club.
Terry is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean, his parents, and his brother Tom. He is survived by his three children Terry (Meg), Laurie Barrett (Doug), and Jennifer, his grandchildren Bryant (Rose), Kate Peterson (Seth), Molly Clouse (Jacob), Alex Barrett, Ryan Barrett, and Annie Barrett, and his great grandchildren, Nolan and Poppy Jean.
Terry’s life will be celebrated April 23 at 12:30pm at Saint Augustine Church in Spokane. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jean and Terry Judge Scholarship Fund at Gonzaga Prep.
