Sally and her twin sister were born May 19, 1928 in Spearfish, South Dakota to Ewing Sampson and Irene Miller Sampson. She graduated from Central Valley Union High School in 1946, where she was very involved in sports, clubs, and leadership. Sally earned her education degree from Eastern Washington State College. She and her husband both taught in the area until retirement and inspired both sons and a granddaughter to become teachers as well. She remained active in education through Alpha Delta Kappa, and International Honorary Organization for Women Educators, as well as serving in the EWU Tawanka Alumni Service Association.
Sally married Vern Fox June 11, 1950 and they had two sons. She was a life-long member of the Opportunity Presbyterian Church, enjoyed watching all sports, and never missed one of her grandkids’ many events or games. She was also in a bowling league and loved her water aerobics. Most special to her, though, was swimming, fishing, and spending time with family at the cabin on Sacheen Lake, and let’s not forget the apple pie and vanilla ice cream!
Sally is survived by her sons, Roger and Jim; her twin sister Betty; grandchildren Jamie Banker (Tom), Kamian Truman (Ryan), and Brent Fox (Brittney); as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family. She is preceded in death by her husband Vern; and sisters Dorothy and Mary Lou.
To honor our beloved mom/grandma’s adamant request, there will be no funeral service. The family would like to thank Horizon Hospice and Sunshine Gardens for end-of-life care. We are deeply appreciative and grateful for the kind and patient staff at Riverview Memory Care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Horizon Hospice or an educational service organization.
